Find A Famous Grave In Paris Cemeteries

Take a Tour of Père Lachaise

Interested in practicing your French? The City of Paris organizes a tour of the cemetery Père Lachaise (the confessor to Louis XIV) for about six euros (entry to the cemetery is free) every Saturday at 2:30 p.m. between April 1 and November 30.

The tour is a timeless promenade that evokes memories of numerous celebrities and legendary figures laid to rest among the greenery of this park. Who is buried at this cemetery, which, thanks to a good marketing strategy attracted new customers?

Père Lachaise is the largest green space in the capital, 44 hectares (108 acres), 5,300 trees and is a refuge of biodiversity. The tombs of Marcel Proust, Frédéric Chopin, Alfred de Musset, Honoré de Balzac, Edith Piaf, and Jim Morrisson are located within its walls. Take the Virtual Tour of Père Lachaise.

Meet at the entrance to the cemetery on Boulevard de Ménilmontant facing rue de la Roquette. The metros to reach the cemetery are Père-Lachaise or Philippe-Auguste. If you have any questions, contact Paris-Jardins (telephone: 0171285056); reservations are not necessary.

If you would like to know more about the fourteen Paris cemeteries, visit the mayor’s website (“Tous les cimetières parisiens”). The link takes you to a page with a list and their name and address. Click on one brings up the history, prominent inhabitants and a map. Père-Lachaise in English on their site. Thank you very much Rami for picking up that page! I have added more Paris cemetery information . My Web site is currently under construction and it helped me with that project as well. I hope you find the additional information useful.
