Between December 26, 2013 and January 5, 2014, at the Pavillons de Bercy, between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., mimes, magicians, acrobats and storytellers will guide you on a voyage into a marvelous dream world festival. The Fairground Arts museum will present a different show every thirty minutes (Check out the program).
Normally visits are only with special group reservations and special events. The after-Christmas period is one of the most rare moments to experience games, old-fashioned rides, carrousels, costumes, at this indoor carnival. The only other time the museum opens to the public is during the Heritage days the third weekend in September (Journées du Patrimoine).
The museum comprises four different areas:
The Musée des Arts Forains, the Théâtre du Merveilleux, the Salons Vénitiens, and the Théâtre de Verdure. Each area has a particular theme: 19th-century fairgrounds at the Musée des Arts Forains, carnival in the Salons Vénitiens, cabinets of curiosity in the Théâtre du Merveilleux and amazing gardens in the Théâtre de Verdure. This the largest collection of its kind in Europe for fairground and show objects. Read more about the Fairground Arts museum on Wikipedia
“The decor mixes tradition with modernity and the short-lived with the long lasting to bring the items to life.
The unique place, a veritable laboratory of ideas, uses the latest technology in sound and video projection to reveal the soul of heritage objects, to get your imagination going and welcome you into this world of daydreams.
The French Ministry for the Economy, Industry and Employment has awarded the living heritage label (Entreprise du Patrimoine vivant) to the Musée des Arts Forains for its expertise in the preservation and presentation of heritage fairground and show items.” –– ParisInfo (Convention and Visitors Bureau)
