Going to a show or the opera or taking a boat ride on the
Seine has just gone on sale!
Planning for the opera takes advance planning. This month
I will tell you about how to obtain discount tickets on line and pay
approximately 107 euros instead of 130 euros at the Paris Opera Garnier.
Next month I will tell you how to obtain a 20% discount
at some of the Paris brasseries such as
La Coupole, Bofinger, and Julien.
How I found the discounts
Haussmann's wrecking balls missed some of Paris' theatres and
cabarets in the 10th arrondissement because they were built above the
street.
Théâtre Déjazet
is one of those theatres that survived.
Not having been to either a play or a comedy at Théâtre Déjazet in a long
time and it being one of my favorite intimate Paris theatres I decided
to find tickets.
One day I was looking up an address for a brasserie and saw an option for
"dinner plus spectacle". The link took me to the
TickeTac website.
Since we planned on eating at home, I was just interested
in the tickets to a show.
Shazamm and Abracadabra! Paris shows and Seine boat
tickets at reduced prices were there waiting for the credit card number.
In the following explanation, we will go as far as making
a reservation, but not follow through with entering any credit card
number.
It is relatively simple to do; easier if you read French.
But voilà! that is what I am here to help you do.
Where to begin
Plan as far in advance as possible. If you have any
desire to obtain tickets that you think might be hard to obtain (Opéra Garnier or
Bastille).
Start booking early for the best seats at a discounted price
(think air fares timing for the best deals).
Go to the
TickeTac website.
It is a French website but by now we are familiar with filling in boxes
on the internet.
Click on “Par salle de spectacle” and you will see
the venues
listed.
For the sake of experimentation, decide if you are going
for a boat road on the Seine, a show at the Palais Garnier (the older
Paris opera house), or a variety show with the beautiful dancers on
stage.
For simplicity, let's click on
Paradis
Latin; then "Valider".
You might see that there is a current “exclusive offer” instead of 80
euros, you pay 45 euros.
Click on buy ( “acheter”):
Your choices are festivals, star, Champagne (go
to the
Paradis Latin website for explanations
in English of their Champagne show for example with dates).
The booking cost is 0.50 euro cents.
Choose your date: click on the time you of show, then which one (not all
offers are available as you will see). If you have questions – contact
them.
Click on buy ( “acheter”) after each entry.
Close that window unless you are going to make a
purchase.
Let's start again, and this time choose the
Opéra
Garnier on the
TickeTac website from the Par salle de spectacle menu.
In this case, we will choose a category of seating.
Your seats for shows will be either be the premium
seating (1ere catégorie) or less desirable but still okay
seating ( 3ème catégorie).
When checking availability for writing this article, one
show's availability was dwindling: A March inquiry left only one
alternative date with seats available: May 31.
The seats for the 1ere catégorie would cost 104
euros, plus the 3.50 euro booking charge. On the opera's website, the
tickets for the same show and night were 130 euros.
At this point, you have the idea. You can always check
the regular prices when visiting the official websites.
Follow the instructions,
pay on line
and pick
up the tickets at the ticket office.
The fun thing is that you may not have thought about
visiting certain historically, well-known theatres, but now you can go
while at the same time being on a budget.
Filling out the form
The form requires your last name (nom), first name
(prénom), address (adress), etc.
Choose a password (choisissez un mot de passé)
Then click on the box that you accept the general
conditions of payment.
We paid with our internet Visa card (we only use one card for internet
purchases or else PayPal in France this system is called
PayBox).
Always save your confirmation (Alt/PrtSc to a word
document) and an email will be sent to you.
It is fast and easy!

The fine print
Picking up your tickets
Pick up your tickets at the ticket window at least 20
minutes before the show starts.
Bring your confirmation receipt:
Mail, email, the text message confirmation (SMS), or
something indicating your name and referencing your reservation
specifying that this is a TickeTac.com reservation.
Seating location
The seats reserved through TickeTac.com are grouped side
by side.
For your information, the premium category (1ere
catégorie) corresponds to the best seats in the theatre, either ground
floor orchestra or first level).
Secured payment
TickeTac.com uses the secured payment technology of
PAYBOX (their PAYPAL) and can confirm
that it is a more secure form of paying with your credit card on their
site than in a majority of other businesses in daily life.
The payment phases are entirely crypted and protected. At
