The inner garden of the Carnavalet Museum (History
of Paris) located in the Marais. The name Carnavalet originated in
1578 when Françoise de La Baume-Montrevel, widow of
François Kernevenoy, purchased it. The Parisians transformed the name
to "Carnavalet". Although it was resold in 1660, the name remained.

City of Paris website (in French).
