XXIII Biennale des Antiquaires 2006

Created in 1901, the
Biennale des Antiquaires, the Syndicat National des Antiquaires (National
Dealers’ Association) returned to the Grand Palais in 2006. (The Carrousel du
Louvre held this event the last six times.)
The first Salon
d'Antiquaires (Paris Biennale) was held at the Grand Palais in 1962; the last
was in 1992. In 1993, the Grand Palais closed when "the
rivet" fell.
Between the 15 and
24th of September 2006, "over 7000 objects were selected with passion by around
100 exhibitors. he museum is the only institution in the world able to pay
tribute to all the illustrious names who have forged the history of French style
and taste: Boulle, Sèvres, Aubusson, Christofle, Lalique, Guimard,
Mallet-Stevens, Le Corbusier, Perriand, Szekely… to name but a few. Every period
and movement is represented, from Gothic to Louis XVI and from Directoire to Art
Nouveau, Art Deco and Design. The selection of 5000 items on show at the Musée
des Arts Décoratifs, in a display area of over 6000 m2, bear eloquent witness to
collectors’ passion, donors’ generosity, and French art de vivre. --
