The Paris
night bus (Noctilien)
Between 12:30
a.m. and 5:30 a.m. 42 buses circulate the Paris streets. The numbers
show that between September 2005 and March 2007, the network carried ten
million plus (10, 283, 979) passengers.

Crottes
de chiens campaign
The mayor's
office has decided to take a new approach to dog poop (crottes de
chiens). City hall has decided to use humor and not be repressive or
moralistic to encourage picking up after the pet dog.
They have put
out 30,000 collection receptacles. The fine if one does not pick up
after poochie is 183 euros.

2006 Paris
traffic deaths - 64 deaths, 9,106 injuries
A campaign is
underway in Paris to lessen the deaths of pedestrians, motorcylists, car
drivers, and cyclists.
Although deaths have decreased since 2001, the city of Paris feels the
number is still too high.
When you see the black and white placards along Paris streets, they give
the first name of the dead victim, age, what they were doing when they
were killed and the means by which they were killed.

Eiffel Tower - 6,719,200 visitors in 2006.
The Eiffel
Tower has topped its all time high in visitation, showing a 4.5%
increase over 2005 (6,428,441 visitors).
As for ticket sales, they were up 5% for a total of 48.7 M€ (VAT
non-included).
More than half climb to the top.
The Tower is open during long hours every day of the year – 9:30am to
11:45pm in winter, 9:00am to 12:45am in summer – with 30% of the
visitors arriving during the evening hours. 55% go to the top of the
Tower and 20% prefer the stairs when climbing to the 2nd floor (704
steps). Groups make up 13% of the total visitors. -- from the
