Paris is full of restaurants that serve past midnight, and in the case of some, into the early hours of the morning.
La Tour Montlhéry in the Halles district for example, better known as Chez Denise (after its owner) serves up a feast of traditional fare until 5am. Until 1971, the Halles district was the capital’s largest wholesale food market and other well-known restaurants in the area include Au Pied de Cochon and La Poule au Pot. Founded in 1947 and 1935, respectively, these two brasseries are open day and night and are the unchanging witnesses of the ‘Parisian stomach’ and its good food.
To find a table in the early morning hours, night owls can also head to the area around the Opéra Garnier, where Le Grand Café Capucines welcomes empty stomachs 24/7. This art deco-style brasserie is famous for its seafood and traditional dishes (foie gras, rib steak, etc.). Delicious seafood platters are also on offer at L’Alsace, which as its name suggests, serves specialties from the region, including of course, the famous choucroute (the French version of sauerkraut). On the Left Bank, the Pub Saint-Germain has a varied food menu, beers and cocktails, available day and night, in a cosy setting.
As well as these all-night restaurants, Paris also boasts numerous restaurants where the chefs work in the kitchen until 1 or 2 in the morning. One example is Chez André, which has been offering refined brasserie dining near the Étoile since 1936. A few steps away, Le Music-Hall keeps a trendy young clientele happy with its unusual menu and ultra-modern decor. Staying on the west side of the city, food lovers are spoiled for choice with L’Auberge Dab, Le Congrès Auteuil and Le Congrès Maillot, three restaurants renowned for their top class quality meats, fish and seafood.
Other more popular areas are also full of good places for a late-night dinner. The pizzeria in the very trendy Mama Shelter hotel deserves a mention for its original menu offering deliciously affordable pizzas, including one with chocolate! For a relaxing atmosphere, head to 25° Est. The restaurant boasts a stunning view of La Villette basin and rotunda. Le Petit Trianon bistro is the ideal place to go to replenish your energy after a night-time stroll in Montmartre. The bistro, situated on the ground floor of the Théâtre du Trianon, has a menu with toasties, sandwiches and salads made using home-made produce.
Finally, no night in Paris would be complete without a visit to L’Alcazar, a famous cabaret transformed into a restaurant. Seven days a week, a ‘main course plus drink’ offer is available on the Mezzanine, the bar overlooking the main restaurant space.
