Paris night life ideas – cabarets
Where to find evening entertainment has been a recent reader’s request. Here are a few shows that I have either attended or heard about:

Le Caveau des Oubliettes *
52, Rue Galande, Paris 5th
Telephone: 01 43 29 37 11
At the end of WWII, “jazz invaded the cellars and hot spots of Paris”…..  After passing the grisly part of the guillotine and the bar, you descend the cellar’s stone steps to the very intimate rooms for jazz; each night a different variety.

My advice to get a seat for the 10 p.m. show: have dinner between 8 p.m. and 9:30 and head over to the cave.

Be there about 9:45 p.m. An excellent funk band was playing on the Saturday night we attended. There should have been five members of the group, but only four made it. Unfortunately, the piano player had his piano stolen that day.

Admission is free
Open all year: 9:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. Sunday to Thursday and until 4:00 a.m. Friday and Saturday

Metro: St Michel or Cité or Maubert Mutualité (around the corner from Saint Julien le Pauvre — rebuilt at the end of the 10th century, destroyed by the Normans in 886.)

*Des oubliettes were the forgotten prisoners who were left to rot.

Caveau de la Huchette  for dancing
5 rue de la Huchette, Paris 5th
Telephone: 01 43 26 65 05

“Dance your socks off” at the famous jazz cellar.
Open all year long, every evening, from 9:30 p.m.
Jazz bands perform every evening and between the music and the dance, it will “remind you of the Cotton Club and the Savoy in the glory days”.

The history

Moulin Rouge
Bal du Moulin Rouge®
Montmartre
82 boulevard de Clichy (18th arrondissement)

The Moulin Rouge website provides a fabulous cache of information about this famous cabaret: the history of the area, the architecture of this period, etc.
A video of the current show “Féerie” — and former shows is available on their website.

Do you want cooking instructions? click on “Table” – The art of cooking according to Toulouse-Lautrec!
Their “have your dinner at the Moulin Rouge” lists five menus.
The reservation page provides the menu costs and times of the shows.
You can book on line (click on reservations). http://www.moulinrouge.fr/home-flash-gb.html

Paradis Latin Cabaret
Paradis Latin Cabaret
28, rue du Cardinal Lemoine, Paris 5th
Telephone: 01 43 25 28 28

When you visit the Paradis Latin Cabaret website, (available in Chinese, German, English, French, Spanish and Italian), you are taken on a guided visit, find out about its history of this “legendary theatre”, their menus (Cordon bleu school is a partner), etc.

This is French cabaret considered is the “Grand Dame” of cabarets Gustave Eiffel constructed the Paradis Latin. It was inaugurated in January 1889.

Their current show is Paradis d’Amour and a video of the show and the Eiffel interior is available on line. When you visit the Paradis Latin Cabaret website, (available in Chinese, German, English, French, Spanishand Italian), you are taken on a guided visit, find out about its history of this “legendary theatre”, their menus(Cordon bleu school is a partner), etc.

The dinners begin at 8 p.m. and include the show.

Cirque d’Hiver Bouglione
The Cirque d’Hiver is located in the 75011 between Républic and Bastille.
110, rue Amelot, Paris 11th

Metro: Line 8 – Filles du Calvaire or Line 9 and 5 – Oberkampf
Bus: 20, 65 or 96

With 150 years of shows behind, their new show is called “Audace”. This circus is in a permanent building in the Bastille/Republic neighborhood.

You can book online. Prices for this show depend on your seat location.

Cabaret Michou
Cabaret Michou
80 rue des Martyrs, Paris 18th
Metro: Pigalle
If you like “kitsch” and if you have seen the film “Cage aux folles” from 1978, you can now see the real thing.

The male greeters and servers already are wearing their make up; they just have to change into costumes to lip sync favorite music artists over the last decades.

The master of ceremony, Michou, usually makes an appearance at the show. You will recognize him by his hallmark blonde hair and large blue glasses.

We had a very good dinner, drinks are included. The earlier you arrive, the better your chances of having your choice of meal (includes the show, dinner and drinks).

The hall is intimate and consists of a small stage, benches and chairs along long eating tables. The show is a lot of fun and very entertaining.

Salsa Music La Java
105 rue du Faubourg du Temple 75010
Metro: Concourt or Belleville

I found this information somewhere:
“... Some areas are well-known as the coolest spots for Parisian nightlife. Among those that fill the old streets, full of charm, in the Marais, are the very design Murano Urban Resort, La Perle, a cult bar well-frequented by night revelers, the very chic Wini June and, for dancing, Les Bains, a great Parisian classic.

At the Bastille, take a stroll around all the streets between rue Oberkampf and rue Jean-Pierre-Timbaud – for an international flavor popular with late-night ravers. The choice is wide: L’Alimentation générale, the Café Charbon and Le Motel are lively every night.

Ancestral is always trendy, while the Saint-Michel and Saint-Germain-des-Prés neighborhoods unveil another type of Parisian night…

The bars of certain hotels are also very trendy places to hang out (the Ritz or the Ice Kube Bar), as are a large number of “arty” bars that liven up art centers and Parisian museums – Point Éphémère, Café du Palais de Tokyo,
La Halle aux Oliviers at La Bellevilloise.

Finally for a really Parisian hip attitude and all night dancing, here is a selection of the very latest ‘in’ places to dance the night away: Le Paris Paris, La Scala (immense), Le Baron, the Showcase (impressive, under the Pont
(bridge) Alexandre-III), Le Rex Club, Le Nyx, l’Ozu & Aqualounge (dance floor below an 8-metre aquarium!), Le Baxo (design)….“
