Paris night life ideas – cabarets
Where to find evening entertainment has been a recent reader’s request. Here are a few shows that I have either attended or heard about:
Le Caveau des Oubliettes *

At the end of WWII, “jazz invaded the cellars and hot spots of Paris”….. After passing the grisly part of the guillotine and the bar, you descend the cellar’s stone steps to the very intimate rooms for jazz; each night a different variety.
My advice to get a seat for the 10 p.m. show: have dinner between 8 p.m. and 9:30 and head over to the cave.
Be there about 9:45 p.m. An excellent funk band was playing on the Saturday night we attended. There should have been five members of the group, but only four made it. Unfortunately, the piano player had his piano stolen that day.

Open all year: 9:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. Sunday to Thursday and until 4:00 a.m. Friday and Saturday
Metro: St Michel or Cité or Maubert Mutualité (around the corner from Saint Julien le Pauvre — rebuilt at the end of the 10th century, destroyed by the Normans in 886.)
*Des oubliettes were the forgotten prisoners who were left to rot.

“Dance your socks off” at the famous jazz cellar.
Open all year long, every evening, from 9:30 p.m.
Jazz bands perform every evening and between the music and the dance, it will “remind you of the Cotton Club and the Savoy in the glory days”.

When you visit the Paradis Latin Cabaret website, (available in Chinese, German, English, French, Spanish and Italian), you are taken on a guided visit, find out about its history of this “legendary theatre”, their menus (Cordon bleu school is a partner), etc.
This is French cabaret considered is the “Grand Dame” of cabarets Gustave Eiffel constructed the Paradis Latin. It was inaugurated in January 1889.
Their current show is Paradis d’Amour and a video of the show and the Eiffel interior is available on line. When you visit the Paradis Latin Cabaret website, (available in Chinese, German, English, French, Spanishand Italian), you are taken on a guided visit, find out about its history of this “legendary theatre”, their menus(Cordon bleu school is a partner), etc.
The dinners begin at 8 p.m. and include the show.
Cirque d’Hiver Bouglione
The Cirque d’Hiver is located in the 75011 between Républic and Bastille.

With 150 years of shows behind, their new show is called “Audace”. This circus is in a permanent building in the Bastille/Republic neighborhood.

If you like “kitsch” and if you have seen the film “Cage aux folles” from 1978, you can now see the real thing.
The male greeters and servers already are wearing their make up; they just have to change into costumes to lip sync favorite music artists over the last decades.
The master of ceremony, Michou, usually makes an appearance at the show. You will recognize him by his hallmark blonde hair and large blue glasses.
We had a very good dinner, drinks are included. The earlier you arrive, the better your chances of having your choice of meal (includes the show, dinner and drinks).
The hall is intimate and consists of a small stage, benches and chairs along long eating tables. The show is a lot of fun and very entertaining.
