The Salon du Chocolat 2022 Offered Fashion and a Chocolate Bugatti

What do you do with 400 kilos (881 pounds) of chocolate? You build a Bugatti Grand Prix type 35, of course! The Bugatti was one of the numerous creative chocolate sculptures at the Salon du Chocolat’s 27th edition in Paris at Porte de Versailles.  The event is always scheduled for the last weekend in October. When I arrived, I headed past the chocolate sculptures, the chocolate tastings, the bean-to-bar stands and straight to the fashion parade of fifteen chocolate-covered dresses and costumes. The announcer was loud and clear, so the event had begun. With two afternoon start times, I would still see everything.  At the world’s largest event dedicated to cocoa, I…

On Sunday evening, the opportunity arose to visit the last opening hours of the Salon du Chocolat. The show continues through November 1 in Pavilion 5, Porte de Versailles and is a five-day event that began the 27th of November. My goal this year: See what is happening at the Salon du Chocolat Junior on the main level. For the first time in 2016, the Salon du Chocolat Junior, gives young chocophiles the chance to sign up for pastry classes, Choco-Tours of the salon wearing cooking toques, workshops, visit the beauty boutique with delicious chocolate treatments, enjoy cultural heritage and entertainment activities with African cocoa-producing countries and watch the production…

Global Chocolate at Paris Salon du Chocolat

On opening day, I entered the Salon du Chocolat while the afternoon sun was shining. The colorful packaging struck my eyes brightly! Entering the trade show on the second level, I was swept up globally and landed in Brazil. After doing a tasting I bought three squares of various Brazilian chocolates from Mendoá: café, ginger and 80% with cocoa feves with in my first ten minutes on site. I had to watch that my cravings did not get near my purse... My taste buds were set to seek out the unusual in this year's Salon du Chocolat. By the time I left this vast array of packaging three hours later,…

    Paris Hot Chocolate Tastings

The quest is on to find those hot chocolate nooks – not the chain or the ones found in every Paris guide book. This list contains the names and information of places I will or I have tried. Help add to the list with your comments. The Paris Mayor’s office has begun a list of best chocolat chauds in Paris using the bike rental Vélib as a guide. At the George V reservations are limited to the number of people for their chocolat chauds. Our group was limited to eight in the center using a sofa and a couple of smaller tables. The chocolate was served in the traditional side-handle…

Book Review: “Intoxicating Paris, Uncorking the Parisian Within”

There is always something useful and something to learn in a guide book. PJ Adams' recent book, "Intoxicating Paris, Uncorking the Parisian Within", is a combination of helpful hints all rolled into one. It is a personal insight, lightweight travel guide with suggestions, partial psychological and psychotherapeutic guide to American and French cultural differences, and a marketing tool for other authors. I was able to identify myself in some parts and appreciated the parts on the cultural differences. "Intoxicating Paris" is a good start for a first-time visitor.
