    Wrapping the Arc de Triomphe

Some dreams become reality. Fabric is covering the Arc de Triomphe sixty years after Christo and Jeanne-Claude envisioned the project L’Arc de Triomphe, Wrapped. “L’Arc de Triomphe, Wrapped” is entirely funded by the Estate of Christo V. Javacheff through the sale of Christo’s works of art. It receives no public funds”. In mid-August steel protective framing covered the arch. On Sunday, September 12, 25,000 square meters of fabric began its descent. By September 18, 3,000 meters of red cord will complete the package. This gift to Paris will stay wrapped until October 3. The noisy roundabout will fall silent for the three weekends between September 18 and October 3. Only those…

Some recognizable film examples are Amélie Poulain, Delicatessen, Alien Resurrection, The Young and Prodigious T.S. Spivet, The City of Lost Children. Their film music, special effects, costumes, props are always out of the ordinary. Marc Caro is a graphic novelist and illustrator. Jean-Pierre Jeunet is a director. After the "Alien" success, Jeunet left Hollywood. He wanted to go back to the neighborhood and make a little film with some friends in Montmartre. Voilà! The little film became the global success, the Fabulous Destiny of Amélie Poulain". I can recommend the exhibit and the…

    Last Days of Carambolages-Grand Palais

Colleen’s Take Away: This style of museum visit could be the future: Necessity to look at each object because each is related to the previous and to the next; Listening to sounds or music on your smartphone to set the tone. The exhibit poster gives no indication of what to expect. In the end, the exhibit is the unexpected. I recommend the exhibit “Carambolages” if you have time before it ends July 4. Colleen’s Tip: Best visited using the app. Download the app (Apple and Android) and its three parts either in advance or at the Grand Palais: Parcours sonore (sound), which I used throughout, Oeuvres galerie basse (art works…

On my way to Monoprix Saint Paul, the colorful stakes with art in their wood rectangles contrasted with the grey sky.... Reading further about the beaux-arts ateliers on line, they are not all leisurely art classes. Les Ateliers Beaux-Arts offers preparatory classes for students preparing for higher studies in career arts....
