RER C Renovating – Reroute Your Journey

Between Gare d’Austerlitz and Javel, RER C resumes normal activity August 27. You will only see a diagram of the stations affected at the bottom of the stairs to the platform. Plan on buses or other metro lines to circumvent this summer riddle. Posters are plastered all over the metros and RER about RER A with only a mention that something is going on with RER C. Even at Gare d’Austerlitz the information is limited. With digging, I was able to find maintenance information about the other RER works scheduled. Use Google Translate to read the page. I was heading to the Eiffel Tower (Tour Eiffel) area, for example. I…

Paris Scenes – A Rainy November Night

A week after the Paris attacks I went out to see if anyone else was out. Along the Champs-Elysées the cars were moving along as usual, the Ferris wheel was turning. They switched on the lights along the avenue a day later than planned. Not many wandered the the Village de Noël Christmas market lanes and sidewalks. Walking toward the Seine, Dior along the Avenue Montaigne had the most spectacular decoration among illuminated trees. Catching the bus from Alma-Marceau to Trocadéro, the Eiffel Tower ...

Planning for July 14 (14 Juillet) in Paris

When planning your fireworks visit, you can be in the Fan Zone of the Champ-de-Mars or the esplanade of Trocadéro to enjoy front row seats. The bridges offer a side view as we had on Pont d'Alma. On their webpage, the magazine, Vivre Paris, has a map showing alternatives for bridges, parks and rooftops.... Imagine the logistics of moving this many people, which means that numerous metro stations were closed. And entering any nearby and open metro station was impossible due to press of flesh! Our quandary: How to get home to the Bastille from Pont d'Alma .....

    Proposals and Love in Paris

Whether anyone has ever said it before or not, I declare that, “Paris is the most romantic city in the world!” June is, traditionally, a popular month for weddings. In Paris, the International Paris Bridal Fashion Trade Fair is a two-day event at the Port de Versailles. The fair takes place annually in June. Before you get to the wedding part, how about that proposal? Have you ever thought about proposing or being proposed to? Have you ever wanted to send a special message to someone while in Paris in an extravagant way? Nicolas Garreau is the expert since 2006 with thirty romantic scenarios at ApoteoSurprise. Nicolas approached me in…

Pop The Cork. Champagne And iPads At The Eiffel Tower!

This story has been archived. Some of the information may have changed since first published. Is that a cork or the top of the Eiffel Tower? Whether the sky is cloudy or bright at the Eiffel Tower, let it rain champagne! Yes, on the southern side of the summit level, tucked away in the former architect’s office, is the Bar à Champagne (really a counter). Mostly the curious stopped by while I was there. Julien, the barman, said that the champagne bar seems to be more active in the evenings. “The bar is a favorite of honeymooners,” he said. “You can tell when they are newlyweds, they eagerly show off…

Lightness of being at the 58 Tour Eiffel restaurant

This story has been archived. Some of the information may have changed since first published. A restaurant with distinct styling Go to one of the Eiffel tower’s restaurants, 58 Tour Eiffel, to see the style and design of a well known Parisian designer. Buy your ticket on line and save yourself a possible one and a half hours waiting in line. On this second visit to the restaurant 58 Tour Eiffel, I want to feel the ambiance of Patrick Jouin‘s design and style as well as enjoy the restaurant’s picnic-in-a-basket lunch. Around Paris, you see the works of Mr. Jouin either on the street with the Velib’ bicycles or the…
